The double mediation effect of academic stress and grit in the influence of mother¡¯s academic achievement pressure on adolescents¡¯ academic burnout

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the double mediation effect of academic stress and grit in the influence of mother¡¯s academic achievement pressure on adolescents¡¯ academic burnout. Since the analysis involved various regions, data were collected from 374 middle school students enrolled in Gyeonggi and Chungcheong regions, and the significance of the mediating effect was verified by using Hayes(2013)¡¯s Process Macro for research problem analysis. The result were as follows: First, the mother¡¯s academic achievement pressure influenced adolescents¡¯ academic burnout through academic stress. Second, grit did not appear to have any mediating effect in the influence of mother¡¯s academic achievement pressure on adolescents¡¯ academic burnout. Third, it was found that the mother¡¯s academic achievement pressure had a double mediation effect on academic burnout through the adolescent¡¯s academic stress and grit. These results indicate that the situation in which the mother¡¯s academic achievement pressure leads to adolescents¡¯ academic burnout should be an increased focus of consideration. In addition, it suggests the efficacy of educational interest and support strategies; since these results demonstrate can reduce and prevent academic burnout by improving grit which in turn, maintains and nurture interest and effort in studying.
